the Magick of the First New Moon of 2025: Welcome to the Year of the Wood Snake

The Lunar New Year is almost here! A fresh slate, infinite possibilities, and, on January 29th, our very first new moon of 2025.
This celestial event doesn’t just bring a cosmic reset; it carries the magical energy of new beginnings, amplified by the arrival of the Lunar New Year and the start of the Year of the Wood Snake. This is a great time to set intentions, connect with nature, and flow into the energies of the year ahead.

What Does the First New Moon Mean?
​New moons are always a time for planting seeds—metaphorically and energetically. When the sky is dark, it’s like the universe is giving us a blank page, saying, “Here, your story starts now.” This isn’t the time to rush or leap but rather to dream, reflect, and whisper your deepest desires to the cosmos.


This new moon in Aquarius invites us to think big.

• What’s the life you’ve always wanted to create?
• What impact do you want to make on the world?
• How can you tap into your unique magic to shift not only your reality but the collective energy?

Here’s how you can harness the magic of this cosmic fresh start:

• What seeds do I want to plant in my life this year?
• How can I embody wisdom, intuition, and growth like the Wood Snake?

Write your intentions on paper and place them under a green candle (representing the Wood element). Light the candle and let its flame infuse your desires with transformative power. Let it burn all the way down while focusing on your intentions (never leave a candle unattended). If you're short on time, you may also divide the candle into three sections and burn each section for 3 days. 

2. Cleanse Your Space 
Before you can grow, you must clear out the clutter. Just as the Snake sheds its skin, take this time to let go of what no longer serves you. Smudge your home with sage, sprinkle some salt in your corners for energetic clearing, or even just reorganize your sacred space. Consider as you clean what you're ready to release or what has served its purpose and is ready for releasing. 

3. Create a Lunar Vision Board:
A fun way to create a board is to go digital! Create a vision board on Canva or Pinterest that reflects your goals for the year. Include images, affirmations, and symbols that resonate with the themes of intuition, growth, and adaptability.

4. Incorporate Family Traditions
For my family, the Lunar New Year is always special. One of our favorite traditions is exchanging red envelopes with $2 bills inside. Why $2 bills, you ask? We believe they bring good luck and ensure prosperity for the coming year! It’s such a beautiful way to share abundance and blessings with loved ones while staying connected to this season of renewal. This year, I’ll be traveling to Minnesota to spend time with my children and grandchildren. Rest assured, the red envelope tradition will be alive and well—and full of love. 

A Ritual to Align with the Year of the Wood Snake:
Here’s a simple but powerful ritual to kick off 2025 aligned with this lunar magic:

1. Gather Your Tools:
   • A green candle
   • A small bowl of water (to represent renewal)
   • A piece of wood or something earthy (to connect with the element)
   • A crystal like serpentine, moss agate, or green aventurine for transformation and growth
2. Set Your Sacred Space:
   Cleanse your space with incense or sage. Light your candle and take three deep breaths to center your energy and focus. Imagine yourself shedding old energy like the Snake sheds its skin. What feels ready to release? What feels too "tight" and uncomfortable for you? What is calling for release? 
3. Speak Your Intentions:
   Say aloud: “As I step into the Year of the Snake, I release all that no longer is working in my favor. I embrace growth, intuition, and transformation. May I move with grace and wisdom, trusting the path ahead.”
4. Seal the Ritual:
   Dip your fingers into the water and touch your third eye, heart, and palms as a blessing for clarity, love, and aligned action. Keep the wood or crystal on your altar as a reminder of your intentions. You may want to put the crystal you chose in your pillow case to inspire dreams to guide you.
